The laboratory of Antimicrobial Resistance and Drug Development at LKC is looking for a highly self-motivated individual to join us as a Research Associate. Our lab is interested in developing new screening assays for drug discovery and early-stage antimalarial and antimicrobials.

The job responsibilities include:

• Experience working with parasites (malaria) and bacteria (various human pathogens)
• Malaria and bacterial assay development and assay optimization for drug screening
• Target deconvolution in malaria and bacteria (understanding mechanisms of action and resistance)
• Design and conduct experiments including data collection and analysis
• Summarize and present the data in lab meetings
• Develop new research techniques and approaches
• Collaborative spirit with internal and external collaborators
• Perform maintenance of inventory and procurement of laboratory consumables
• Ensure safe technical practices and procedures
• Candidate must be willing to learn and feel comfortable working with various bacteria
• The candidate must be highly adaptable at working with different organisms.
• Candidate must be highly adaptable at working with different techniques.
• Assume laboratory management responsibilities including helping with grant management, budgets, safety, procurement and others.

The qualifications and competencies include:

• Masters Degree in Life Sciences/ Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related field
• At least two years working experience in research
• Experience working with the malaria parasite
• Experience working with bacteria
• Strong molecular biology background and expertise
• Excellent at team work
• Strong integrity
