About School of Social Sciences (SSS)

SSS has nearly 100 faculty members and more than 1,700 undergraduates who major in the four degree programmes the School offers: Economics, Psychology, Public Policy and Global Affairs, and Sociology. Students also have the opportunities of choosing double majors such as Economics and Psychology, Economics and Public Policy & Global Affairs, and Economics and Engineering, etc. There are more than 180 graduate students in our PhD and MA programmes (by research), and MSc programmes in Applied Economics and Gerontology. The School's holistic and rigorous education aims to prepare our students with analytical and critical capacities that can be applied in the classroom and future careers. Students will be able to further expand their learning horizons through overseas exchanges and internship experiences in Singapore.

Apart from being deeply engaged in their disciplinary pursuits, our faculty members are also at the forefront of cutting-edge research between the social sciences and other disciplines. The School has identified Global Asia, Environment and Sustainability, Science and Society as the strategic areas of interdisciplinary research and international collaborations.

Job Description

As part of the SSS Communication Framework, this role will help to further promote our research advances and capabilities, corporate branding and public image. This role aims to enhance the School's reputation by raising awareness of the School's achievements in education, research and innovation. The role helps to build awareness of the School's activities and strengths by optimising media publicity for the School on various media and communication platforms, working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, its industry and academic partners, and various government ministries and agencies.

Working closely with the Senior Assistant Manager, Marketing and Communications, this role will help with the following:

Developing and running the NewSSSroom
  • In support of the AC (Internship, Exchange, Alumni and Communication) and in complement to the roles of the existing Communications Manager to develop and run the NewSSSroom
  • Operating the NewSSSroom as the key information center of the school to consolidate the current ongoings at SSS (e.g. faculty/student achievements, school initiatives, UG/PG/internship/exchange programs, key events, external partnerships, etc.)
  • Constantly collect and process such multidimensional information from internal and external stakeholders and content contributions from internal ones
  • Packaging and dissemination such information through the appropriate channels such as traditional and contemporary media outlets (e.g. SSS website, print/online newspapers, social media, and the PR offices of external stakeholders)
  • Coordinate and/or organise training workshops for faculty and staff to sufficiently prepare them for communications tasks


Growing relationships with external stakeholders
  • Supporting the AC IEAC and complementing to the roles of the existing External Relations Manager to grow strong relationships with external stakeholders, e.g. employers, potential donors, government agencies, community or corporate partners, etc.
  • Implement the best-suited communication channels and means in order to jointly identify collaborative opportunities for the respective units of the school.


Public Engagement including organising School's public outreach events
  • Supporting the AC IEAC in planning the strategies and initiatives for outreach to external stakeholder, e.g. employers, potential donors, government agencies, community or corporate partners, etc.
  • Arrange event logistics for in-person events
  • Recruit and deploy manpower for online and in-person events
  • Prepare suitable content for online events (e.g., FAQs, PowerPoint slides for faculty presentations, publicity material)


Consolidate research outputs for reporting to the University

Curation of research outputs for general public

Requirements
  • Degree/diploma in Marketing, Mass Communications, Business Administration, Arts & Social Sciences or related discipline
  • Communications and/or external relations experience (e.g. journalism, public relations, marketing, or social media)
  • Good project management skills
  • Computer savvy and proficient in MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel)
  • Good knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc. Experience in SEO and SEM is highly valued
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent command of English, verbal and written communication skills
  • Good eye for design and photography
  • Knowledge in design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop) a plus
