Research Fellow (Energy Logistics and Energy Modelling)
The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERIAN) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) distinguishes itself through research excellence directed towards outcomes of industry relevance, with focus on systems-level research for tropical megacities. The Institute integrates research across NTU in the context of the energy challenge, and then helps translate outcomes into industry and practice. The Institute's research focuses on a host of Interdisciplinary Research Programmes, Flagship Programmes, Consortium Platforms, and an Accelerator Programme that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialization and deployment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform modelling, develop optimization tools, conduct related literature review and survey to evaluate the costs, benefits, and environmental impacts of Singapore as a global supply chain hub for clean energy.
  • Develop techno-economic analysis (TEA), life cycle analysis (LCA) and optimization models for logistics of clean energy.
  • Develop models for evaluation of alternative pathways for decarbonization.
  • Prepare drafts of presentation slides, and progress reports to the management teams, funding agencies and stakeholders.


Job Requirements:
  • Doctorate degree in Engineering (preferably Industrial, Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical), or Business, Transportation Science, Operations Research, or Maritime Engineering/Optimization fields.
  • Some work experience in an industrial or academic research setting before or after the PhD would be ideal, but not necessary.
  • Proficiency in optimization modelling software such as Gurobi, and energy modelling tools such as TIMES (or TIMES-MARKAL), and SESAMI or equivalent tools is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in LCA methodologies and LCA tools such as GaBi and/or SimaPro is also highly desirable.
  • Ability to code in C/Python and strong analytical modeling skills is required.
  • Knowledge in the global developments of clean and alternative energy technologies/solutions while not essential should be picked up quickly.
  • Specialized domain knowledge in (maritime) transport of natural gas, hydrogen, and/or capture carbon and utilization technologies is strongly desired
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team to achieve results.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent team player.
