The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Associate on a 17-month contract at the Psychology and Child & Human Development (PCHD) Academic Group.

Project Title: Improving the Mental Health of Patients with Comorbid Chronic Diseases: A Randomized Controlled Evaluation of the Feasibility and Preliminary Effectiveness of a Single-Session Solution-Focused Consultation (SSC) [NMRC 4/23 JLT]

Project Introduction: The project's objective is to evaluate whether a novel, single-session consultation can enhance the health and mental health of individuals with chronic health problems, and increase their engagement with mental health services.

The research assistant will have the opportunity to (1) engage in clinical/health psychology-related research; and (2) gain valuable experience in implementing and evaluating mental health interventions in a real-life setting, using mixed research methods.

Requirements:

• Master's Degree in Psychology, Counselling, or related field.
• Excellent English writing and communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Detail-oriented, self-starter with good organization skills
• A willingness to learn and implement qualitative and quantitative research methods
• Proficiency in a statistical package (e.g., SPSS, R, Jamovi) preferred
• Clinical or research experience in the mental health field is preferred, but is not necessary

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate the research project (i.e., manage and oversee various aspects of the project - including study logistics and administration - to ensure smooth operation and adherence to study protocols)
• Recruit, screen, and track study participants
• Administer assessments and conduct semi-structured interviews
• Conduct interventions
• Assist with transcription, qualitative and quantitative data cleaning, coding, and analysis
• Contribute to the writing and preparation of research reports, manuscripts, and presentations
• Assist principal investigator with other relevant research tasks (e.g., literature searches, IRB application, grant writing, etc.)
• Other duties as assigned by PI
